John Giamatteo Appointed as the New BlackBerry CEO

John J. Giamatteo has been named as the new Chief Executive Officer and a Board Director of BlackBerry, effective immediately. He succeeds Richard (Dick) Lynch, who was the interim CEO since November 4, 2023, and will remain as the Board Chair.

BlackBerry also revealed that it will split its IoT and Cybersecurity businesses into two separate and independent divisions. The company has dropped its plans to launch a subsidiary IPO for the IoT business. Giamatteo has been the President of BlackBerry’s Cybersecurity division since October 2021. He brings over three decades of experience with global technology firms.

“We are thrilled to welcome John as the CEO for this pivotal moment in BlackBerry’s journey, as we aim to fully divide our two main business segments to boost shareholder value. His extensive industry knowledge and remarkable record of motivating teams and achieving operational excellence make him well-suited to steer this vital transformation of BlackBerry,” said Mike Daniels, Chair of the Compensation, Nomination, and Governance Committee of the BlackBerry Board.

Meanwhile, John J. Giamatteo has said, “I am grateful and eager to take charge of the next stage of BlackBerry’s growth as its CEO. BlackBerry’s IoT and Cybersecurity segments have cutting-edge technology, outstanding teams, and huge market potential.”
