OpenAI is working on ChatGPT 5 — the next big thing in AI. In a recent interview, CEO Sam Altman revealed that this model could achieve superintelligence, but it would require more funding from its long-time ally Microsoft to make it happen.
Altman praised the collaboration with Microsoft and said he hopes to get more money from the Windows maker and other investors in the future. Creating a powerful AI model like ChatGPT is not cheap or easy. It needs billions of dollars and huge amounts of computing power, training on billions or trillions of data points, and careful optimization and safety checks.
Microsoft has already invested more than $10 billion in OpenAI as part of a long-term deal, and Altman said he wants more as “we have a long way to go and a lot of compute to build before we reach AGI.”
Microsoft has changed its whole business strategy around AI, with Copilot being the main feature in Windows and other apps. This shows how the investment will help the company’s big push into this area. But for Altman, the real goal is intelligence.
